Last week, I had the pleasure of getting my brows laminated by Suzy, also known as Suzy The Brow Boss, at Grafton Barber on Drury Street. While she worked on my brows, she shared everything I needed to know about brow lamination. If you’re someone who loves the look of SoapBrows, which I apply daily, then brow lamination might just be the perfect treatment for you. It’s essentially a semi-permanent version of SoapBrows, which gives your brows a naturally lifted and sculpted look. Since getting them done, I’ve been asked daily how I style my brows, and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned!
What Does Brow Lamination Look Like?
Brow lamination gives you that brushed-up, feathered look, similar to SoapBrows, but with the added benefit of longer-lasting results. The best part? You can adjust the shape and style! While many people prefer the “brushed-up” look, where the hairs are lifted and styled upwards, you can also choose to have your brows brushed downward or shaped in any direction you like. The process allows you to easily manipulate the hairs to create your ideal brow look.
Is Brow Lamination Like a Lash Lift for Your Brows?
Yes, brow lamination is similar to a lash lift in that it lifts the hairs from the roots, giving them a more voluminous, fuller appearance. The difference is that with brows, you’re able to shape and adjust the direction of the hairs, creating a more defined and lifted brow shape that can last for weeks.
How Does Brow Lamination Work?
The brow lamination process involves a few key steps and special serums to transform your brows. First, a serum is applied to break down the bonds in the hair, making it easier to manipulate the brows into the desired position. Next, a second serum is used to lock the hairs into place. The hairs are then fixed into their new position, which can be brushed up, down, or shaped in whatever way you choose.
After this, the brows are tinted, and the tint penetrates deeper into the hairs since the bonds have been broken down. This means the tint lasts longer and gives a richer, more defined color. Lastly, a third serum is applied to nourish the hair, infusing it with keratin to restore its natural strength and health.
Is Brow Lamination Bad for Your Brows?
No, brow lamination isn’t bad for your brows as long as you follow proper aftercare. It’s similar to a hair perm, which also involves breaking and restructuring hair bonds. However, you should be mindful of aftercare to keep your brows in top shape. Just like you would care for your hair after a perm, you need to hydrate and nourish your brows following a lamination treatment to prevent them from becoming dry or brittle.
How Do I Take Care of My Brows After Brow Lamination?
After having your brows laminated, it’s essential to give them some extra care. For the first 48 hours, avoid getting your brows wet or applying any products to them. After this period, I recommend applying castor oil to your brows each night. Castor oil is known to strengthen the hairs and promote healthy growth. You can also use a reusable microfibre pad with a gentle brow cleanser to clean them. Your brows are delicate, and just like the scalp on your head, they need proper care and hydration. Remember that many people overlook their brows, forgetting that they, too, need moisturizing and protection from things like eczema and dermatitis.
Who Should Avoid Brow Lamination?
While brow lamination is suitable for most people, it’s not recommended for individuals with certain skin conditions, such as dermatitis or eczema. It’s also not ideal for those with sparse areas under their brows that they may use to cover gaps with other brow hairs. Since brow lamination involves brushing the hairs upwards, it can expose any underlying skin issues or gaps that you may prefer to keep hidden.
How Long Does Brow Lamination Take?
The entire brow lamination process typically takes about an hour, though it can be shorter for some people—around 40 minutes. When the treatment is done, your brows may look a little flattened or subdued, but after 24 hours, they will begin to fully take shape and look their best.
How Long Does Brow Lamination Last?
Brow lamination typically lasts between six to eight weeks, but the exact duration depends on your individual brow care and lifestyle. If you’re someone who swims frequently or uses strong brow products, the results might not last as long. Proper aftercare plays a significant role in making sure your brows stay looking great for as long as possible.
How Can I Make My Brow Lamination Last Longer?
The first 24 hours after brow lamination are the most crucial, so be sure not to get your brows wet during this time. It’s also important to sleep on your back to avoid pressing your brows into a pillow, which could cause them to lose their shape. After the first 24 hours, gently cleanse and brush your brows into place. Then, after 48 hours, start applying castor oil to keep them hydrated and healthy. Always remove any brow makeup at night to avoid drying out the hairs, and be gentle when handling them.
What Products Should I Use After Brow Lamination?
When selecting products for your brows after lamination, choose a clear gel with minimal hold. Avoid gels with heavy hold as they can cause your brows to become brittle, which can damage the delicate hairs. Opt for lightweight formulas that hydrate while keeping your brows in place without compromising their health. Regular care with these types of products will ensure your brows stay nourished and styled perfectly.
Brow lamination is a game-changer for anyone who loves the look of perfectly styled brows without the daily effort. With the right care, your brows will stay beautiful and effortlessly chic for weeks, so you can enjoy the benefits of a low-maintenance, high-impact look all holiday season long!
